180+ new before/after school care spaces coming to Nanaimo
NANAIMO — More before- and after-school childcare spaces are coming across the province.
Provincial minister of education Lisa Beare announced in Nanaimo on Monday, Aug. 31, a multi-million-dollar investment to add approximately 1,200 new, licensed before- and after-school spaces in elementary schools across 22 school districts in B.C.
While a large portion of the spots will come online beginning in September, the remainder are expected to be created over the coming months.
“It’s helping more families access what is high-quality, affordable childcare when and where they need it. These programs are made possible by a $5 million investment to support renovations and repurposing of existing spaces in school sites to create new childcare spaces,” Beare said.
