Loaves and Fishes food bank starting move into new Nanaimo warehouse
NANAIMO — Years of planning, fundraising, and construction have finally paid off for Loaves and Fishes Community Food Bank.
Beginning this week, the organization is moving into the Tom Harris Regional Food Centre, a new warehouse facility at 1861 East Wellington Rd., the result of federal and provincial government funding, land, and other contributions from the City of Nanaimo, plus other fundraising and sponsorship dollars.
Executive director Peter Sinclair said it’s the end of one journey and the start of another as the organization figures out how to best use the new, expansive warehouse.
“We’re going to do a phased approach. Our Empties 4 Food program will move in this week, and then the following week we will move all of our food sorting operations in.”
