189,000 Chinook return to Alberni

Alberni anglers are excited with another banner year for Robertson Creek chinook.

According to Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the preseason forecast is for 189,000 fish returning to the hatchery.

A First Nations Economic Opportunity fishery opened Sunday night and Area D gillnetters will get their first opening tonight. Area B Seiners get a 3-day opening starting Wednesday.

Recreational anglers are allowed 2 chinook per day but they must be longer than 45 centimeters.
