NANAIMO — A turning of the corner appears to be underway for healthcare on the mid-Island.
The first steps towards major transformation for the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital campus have occurred in recent years, including commitments and tangible progress on a new patient tower and cardiac care lab in Nanaimo.
However, a ground-level movement from a somewhat surprising place has provided a noticeable boost in staffing not only at the hospital but also at medical clinics across the region, helping address a chronic shortage of care providers.
