Provincial funding helps expand VIU skilled-trades training
NANAIMO — Vancouver Island University is getting new skilled-trades training seats via additional provincial funding.
Sixty-four seats will be added this coming school year, part of a provincial commitment to add 5,000 new trades seats across B.C.
The addition brings VIU’s total trades training capacity to 1,550 seats, funded through a $241 million provincial investment over three years aimed at getting more British Columbians into training and onto job sites faster.
“On Vancouver Island, more people are walking into a meaningful career in the trades that pays well and keeps them close to home,” Jessie Sunner, Minister of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills, said in a statement.
