Nanaimo city-wide swap meet aims to ease up on landfill

Jul 18, 2026 | 7:19 AM

NANAIMO — Operating since the early 2000s, a city-wide swap meet will see items free to pick up throughout curbs in Nanaimo.

Reuse Rendezvous allows others to take advantage of unwanted items, while also preventing items from being disposed in the landfill.

The City of Nanaimo event invites participants to place their clean, reusable items at the curb in front of their homes, clearly marking them with a ‘FREE’ sign, on Saturday July 18 and Sunday July 19.

Participants are asked to keep sidewalks, roadways and bike lanes clear.

The City will not collect unclaimed items, which should be removed by Monday, July 20.

“Help keep treasure hunt safe and fun: slow down, watch for children, park carefully,  and follow traffic signs and speed limits,” the City stated.

Suitable Reuse Rendezvous items include books, toys, sporting gear, household items, small furniture, toys, yard equipment and bikes.
