Jewelery scammers working multiple areas in Nanaimo and Parksville
NANAIMO — While two people got away without losing money or valuables, another wasn’t quite so lucky, prompting a reminder from local Mounties.
Three separate incidents involving very similar details were reported to police in Nanaimo and Oceanside on June 6, with a man and a woman travelling in a black Audi approaching people in residential areas and attempting to sell them or offer jewellery to aid in a supposed emergency the pair were having.
Oceanside RCMP Sgt. Shane Worth told NanaimoNewsNOW two incidents were reported to them in the morning of June 6, involving the two asking for directions first from a person mowing their lawn, then another individual walking along the street.
“We have had this scam in the past in the mid-Island area, and they have used all sorts of vehicles. They’ve had children with them, they may not have even been the same people as these people, but people have done this in the past in recent memory on the island with a similar M.O.”
