Clipper netminder takes top prize at annual awards event

NANAIMO — The Clippers celebrated their season and remarkable playoff run with an awards ceremony and gathering of mostly team billets and volunteers.

The Tuesday, May 26, celebration came just a few days removed from the end of the team’s playoff run, which ended in Brooks on Friday, May 22, and featured speeches and a short video shown at the event at Wolf Brewing in Nanaimo.

The awards were highlighted by Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau winning team MVP, while Jack Rimmer and Indiana Grossbard were both multiple award-winners.

Rimmer won the first ever Gary Dorland Memorial Award for his outstanding contributions to the club on and off the ice.

He also was picked the Most Popular Player and the Best Forward.

Grossbard was the Clippers’ Rookie of the Year and Scholastic Award winner.

Landon Pappas was named the Top Defenceman, Elliot Perreault took the Unsung Hero, Charles Beland won the Most Improved Player, and Tanner Bruender was singled out as the Best Two-Way Forward.

The other winners were Patrick Fortune as the Most Exciting Player and Will Subject as Most Inspirational.

Owen Davies was given the Lisa McPherson Award for dedication and courage, and Alicia Victoor earned the Volunteer of the Year.

Captain Will Subject spoke about his gratitude to the fans and the community in a season that culminated in a trip to the BCHL Finals.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity from the coaches halfway through the year to lead this group. It’s such an honour to wear the ‘C’ for such a prestigious organization. I’m speechless when I think about it. This community has been incredible this year, showing up every night and giving us that extra momentum that we need.”

The Clippers ended the event by honouring their graduating players, including Subject, Rimmer, Davies, Bruender, Pappas, Seguin-Lescarbeau, Sam Boisvert, Hayden Fechner, and Blake Jones.

2026 marked the 10th time the Nanaimo Clippers franchise made a trip to the BCHL Finals, it was also the club’s second appearance in the championship series in the last five seasons.

Nanaimo has won five BCHL titles with the last one coming in 2007.
