Speed tickets surge at high-crash north Nanaimo intersection
NANAIMO — Speeding through a busy Nanaimo intersection was evidently too tempting for hundreds of motorists, despite well-advertised warning signage.
A record number of 314 speeding fines were issued at the Island Hwy./Hammond Bay Rd./ Aulds Rd. intersection in 2025, according to B.C. government data.
The number of speeders at the north Nanaimo intersection represents a significant 44 per cent rise on the previous record-breaking 209 violators nabbed in 2022.
The speed limit along the Island Hwy. between Enterprise Way northward to where the highway and Nanaimo Parkway meet north of the Woodgrove Crossing shopping complex is 70 kilometres an hour.
