Contractor error causes new Nanaimo roundabout to be ripped up & replaced
NANAIMO — A peculiar month-long road construction project at the southern entrance to Nanaimo’s Beban Park is due to defective construction, according to the City.
The City of Nanaimo is advising road users of an anticipated month-long project underway as of Monday, April 27, involving the new Beban Parkway roundabout near the tennis courts.
Phil Stewart, the City of Nanaimo’s manager of engineering projects, said crews are actively digging up and will then replace the roundabout located east of Bowen Rd.
“The traffic circle apron was tested and was found to be defective, and looking at the different solutions…the solution was to remove and replace it,” Stewart said, who noted the concrete inside the roundabout is the primary issue.
