NANAIMO — The Clippers are firmly in the drivers seat in their playoff series with the Cowichan Valley Capitals.

They were at their best in Game 3 with a 6-2 to victory so they now have a 3-0 lead in the best of seven affair.

Hayden Fechner, who sat out Game 2 due to illness, opened the scoring just 41 seconds in to the contest and Nanaimo never looked back.

Charles Beland put the Clippers up 2-0 after the first period and then two minutes into the middle frame Indiana Grossbard extended the lead and that chased Capitals starting goaltender Rhett Stoesser.

Cowichan Valley got a small boost when backup Jaiden Sharma entered the game and followed up with a power play marker by Anthony Hall.

But Beland scored his second of the night on a Clippers man advantage to give Nanaimo a 4-1 advantage through 40 minutes.

Havryil Simchuk tallied with the game in four on four in the third period before the Clippers Tanner Bruender and Sam Boisvert capped off the scoring for a 6-2 final.

All four goalies played with the Clippers bringing in Matthew Hutchison to mop up the last few minutes for starter Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau.

Both Seguin-Lescarbeau and his team now have a 7-1 record in the BCHL playoffs.

The final shots finished 42-39 in Nanaimo’s favour and both teams ended up 1/2 on the man advantage.

Aside from Beland’s two goals the Clippers had big offensive performances from Bruender with a goal and two assists, Boisvert with a goal and an assist and Jack Rimmer who had a pair of assists and leads the team with 13 playoff points.

The Clippers have a chance to sweep the series and move on to round three of the post season if they can win in Game 4 on April 22.
