‘More than double:’ huge visitor influx expected for second Nanaimo Infusion
NANAIMO — What started as an idea from a viral video in early 2024 continues to grow as a massive tourism and healthcare movement.
The second Nanaimo Infusion will take place April 24-26, highlighted by a gathering and family photo at Maffeo Sutton Park on Saturday, April 25, and is projected to see well over 500 visitors, primarily from the United States, spend time in the community.
Co-organizer Tod Maffin said this year is poised to be much bigger, as the movement has grown in the 12 months since last year’s gathering, serving as a major recruitment tool for American healthcare workers looking to make the move north.
“Based on the numbers that we’re using against last year’s modeling, we could be well past more than double of what we had last year. More than half of those visitors said that they are either a healthcare worker themselves or their spouse is a healthcare worker.”
