Farmer’s Markets remain split
With Spring approaching, the renewal of a consolidated Port Alberni Farmers Market remains dormant.
Bringing the two farm markets back together was recently cited as something that would strengthen the community, but organizers says the two sides aren’t talking.
Cherry Creek farm market president Norm Lowe said they originally split in 2012 as vendors sought a more sheltered space to sell their wares, out of the cold and rain of the Harbour Quay.
“Cherry Creek is an ideal place. It might not be ideal down at Harbour Quay with the weather,” he said. “The ones are up at Cherry Creek are quite happy. You won’t get them to move. I’ve been there right from the start – 12 years at Cherry Creek and I’m certainly not interested in starting to go down to Harbour Quay again.”
