UPDATE: Missing Nanaimo man found safe and sound by RCMP

UPDATE — Nanaimo RCMP report a missing man has been located safe and sound.

EARLIER, NANAIMO — Local Mounties are attempting to locate a missing man after his truck was found abandoned and flipped on its roof.

Officers were called to Nanaimo River Rd., near Jump Main Rd. during the noon hour on Wednesday, Feb. 18 after reports of a motor vehicle incident involving a red Dodge pickup truck.

“The caller, who did not provide their name, reported that the pickup had gone into the ditch and flipped onto its roof,” Reserve Cst. Gary O’Brien noted in a release. “The same caller told police dispatchers that a man was seen attempting to break his way out of the overturned vehicle.”

Police arrived a short time later and located the vehicle, however were unable to find anyone connected to the truck.

Several units were dispatched, including Police Dog Services, but they were unable to locate the man seen earlier.

A 52-year-old local man, Sun Hoorn, is believed to have been driving the vehicle at the time of the crash, and his most recent address was listed as at the Travelodge on Terminal Ave., near downtown Nanaimo.

Staff at the hotel say Hoorn was no longer residing at the property.

Investigators are concerned for Hoorn’s safety and are asking anyone with information as to his whereabouts to contact the Nanaimo detachment at 250 754 2345.

Hoorn is described as having a medium build with short dark hair and several earrings in his left ear.

Police note the attached photograph is recent.
