New Years Day crash near Cameron Lake claims life of driver

WHISKEY CREEK — A motorist was killed and a passenger injured following a single-vehicle crash on Hwy. 4 east of Cameron Lake.

Oceanside RCMP reported a 29-year-old driver’s westbound grey Acura went off the highway and hit several trees on the evening of Thursday, Jan. 1.

The driver was pronounced dead on scene, while the lone passenger was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries, Oceanside RCMP stated in a news release.

Police reported the crash happened on the highway between Chalet Rd. and Little Qualicum Falls Rd.

“The vehicle appeared to have lost control and skidded off the highway after coming around a corner. The highway was closed for several hours while the investigation was being conducted, and the vehicle was removed from the embankment,” the release stated.
