Dover Bay headlines a list of highly rated BC high school boys’ basketball teams

NANAIMO — The high school boys basketball season has wrapped up until after Christmas.

Several local teams are highly ranked with the last round of provincial rankings for 2025 now out.

At the head of the list is Dover Bay, sitting as the number two-ranked team in the province and number one on Vancouver Island in 4A.

Coach Darren Seaman said his staff had high expectations going into the season.

“We are pleased with our start yet not surprised. The players worked very hard in the off-season, and it’s nice to see them doing well as a team.”

Just after Christmas, the Dophins will play in the UVic tournament in Victoria.

“The venue and level of competition is top-notch. We don’t have result-based expectations, we just look to improve with every game played. The tougher the games the better for us. If the boys play as hard and as tough as their potential, we will be happy regardless of the results.”

The NDSS 4A is also highly ranked with a number five standing on the Island, however, they didn’t make it into the provincial top ten.

In 3A, the Wellington Wildcats are ranked fifth and were given an honourable mention for the top ten in the province.

Other notable local programs include 2A Ladysmith Secondary with a number seven Island seeding and Nanaimo Christian school with a number two ranking on Vancouver Island and a rating of ten in the province.
