Multiple vehicles damaged or destroyed in Nanaimo by out-of-control pickup

Sep 29, 2025 | 4:29 PM

NANAIMO — A substantial clean-up was required after a pickup truck lost control and veered into several parked vehicles.

Emergency crews were called to Third St., near Wakesiah Ave. just before 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 29 after a full sized pickup truck driving westbound lost control.

Reserve Cst. Gary O’Brien said the vehicle, for unknown reasons, then crashed into several parked cars.

“The driver of the car then crossed the median, went into the southbound lanes and struck other vehicles then veered back into the other lanes. It only came to a stop after striking a vehicle at an apartment near the intersection of Wakesiah.”

The crash was witnessed by multiple people, as several apartment buildings overlooked the scene.

Both the driver, an adult man, and his passenger were taken to hospital following the crash for non-life threatening injuries.

No-one on the street was hurt.

O’Brien added substantial damage occurred to around five vehicles, with at least one or two being complete write-offs.

He said there was “lots of carnage” as a result, with the road closed for several hours.

“The crews had to sweep up the debris, get the vehicles out of the area and do their investigation safely.”

He added it’s not confirmed why the driver lost control, but it’s suspected he had a medical emergency.
