Major construction company comes to Alberni

Jul 15, 2025 | 9:08 AM

A new industry is coming to Port Alberni, and its owner says they’ll be hitting the ground running.
IGV Housing already has a contract for 11 houses and 228 condos in Ucluelet that will be constructed at the former San Group Remanufacturing facility on Stamp Avenue.
Company owner and CEO Joshua Hunt says the innovative assembly line process they’re installing will be a leader in reducing home construction costs.
“An automated production line that is going to build what we call our ‘Smart Core’ and it’s got all of your kitchens, your bathrooms, HVAC, all of the smarts of your home in one central core but then we build volummetrically around it,” he said. ” It’s a new way; a patented technology called hybrid construction technology.”
Mayor Sharie Minions says she’s excited about the new technology calling Port Alberni home.
“This is exciting for housing across the country and for Port Alberni to get to house an initiative that is intending to reduce the cost of construction by 50%,” she said. “I sat and met with these people and could’ve probably spoken to them for a week solid as they have some really fantastic ideas and not only that, they’ve already got the technology, the equipment and the sales in place to do it, so I could not be more thrilled. They are going to be a welcome addition to the community.”
Hunt came before city council yesterday to explain their proposed use of the former reman facility with hopes of hiring 60-80 people initially when they begin construction in September.
