Large turnout for Nanaimo’s signature Elwood Wylie track meet
NANAIMO —The annual Elwood Wylie meet was a large success with over 450 athletes from ages nine to 80 plus.
Nanaimo Track and Field Club (NTFC) head coach and spokesperson Wanda Urbanowicz said it was one of the best meets they’ve held.
“The weather helped and the conditions were ideal. We had track rascals events, the stands were full of cheering and we also had exhibition relays. We capped it off with a group of masters athletes from Nanaimo who broke a Canadian record in the 4×800 metre relay. We held a special event for them as they were trying to beat a Canadian record they set here last year.”
The team of Peter Sinclair, Erik Hurley, Liam Watson and Paul Klan beat their own record by posting a time of 8:49 in the men’s 45-49 year old age group.
