PARKSVILLE — A 39-year-old Victoria woman is facing a pair of dangerous driving charges after allegedly being involved in a fatal crash last February.

Jasmine Kaur Bal was formally charged with one count of dangerous driving causing death, and one count of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, for her alleged role in the crash along Hwy. 4 at Carson Rd. in Whiskey Creek on Feb. 15, 2024.

The crash involved a red car and a black SUV going in opposite directions on the undivided section of highway east of Cameron Lake at around 11:20 a.m.

A 38-year-old passenger in the car died on scene, while both the drivers were taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.

Bal has no prior criminal record in B.C., but has been issued multiple tickets under the Motor Vehicle Act dating back to the mid-2000’s and 2010’s for speeding, including one in a playground zone in 2013.

Police have not said what contributing factors led to the incident.

Bal’s next court appearance is scheduled for late March.

She’s not in custody.
