Man seriously hurt in crash involving ambulance near Nanaimo hospital

NANAIMO — A key central Nanaimo intersection was temporarily closed following a serious two-vehicle crash.

Nanaimo RCMP Res. Cst. Gary O’Brien said a collision ocurred at the Dufferen Cres./Boundary Cres. intersection on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 10:20 a.m. involving a B.C. Emergency Health Services ambulance and Chevrolet Cavallier.

He said circumstances leading up to the crash are being looked into.

“The vehicle that crashed, was a man who’s [now] in hospital with serious injuries. No injuries sustained to the EHS (Emergency Health Services) crew or the patient being transported.”

The busy intersection was closed for roughly three hours.

Collision analysts were tasked to the scene, while drone flew above collecting evidence for police.
