Clippers beat Bulldogs, earn points in nine straight hockey games

NANAIMO — The Clippers continued their winnings ways with a 5-2 home ice win over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.

After a earning only a single point in a 2-1 overtime setback against Prince George, Nanamo won for their eighth time in nine games on Feb. 21.

Alberni got off to a good start with a Jacob Terpstra goal just over a minute into the contest.

Despite being outshot 20-9 in the opening period, Clippers goalie Vladimir Nikitin kept the game at 1-0.

Luke Lavery tied the game on a second period power play marker on a play started with a quick up from Nikitin.

Tanner Bruender jammed home the go ahead goal midway through the third on a play that was subject to a lengthy review.

Patrick Fortune and Lavery added some insurance before the teams traded late tallies.

Wyatt Davis got a late power play goal for the Bulldogs and Cole Lonsdale sealed the game with an empty netter.

The Clippers outshot Alberni Valley 38-35 while going 1/3 on the man advantage and 1/2 killing penalties.

Nikitin’s victory moved him to a perfect 6-0 in Clipper colours.

The win also moved the Clippers into a sixth place tie with Alberni Valley in the Coastal Division standings.

Nanaimo is also only two points behind the fifth place Coquitlam Express.

The Clippers hit the road next to play the Victoria Grizzlies Feb. 22 at 6 p.m.
