POWELL RIVER — It was a dramatic comeback for the Clippers against the Kings in a 3-2 overtime win.

Dylan Kinch opened the scoring for Nanaimo eight minutes into the game but Calvin Beard tied it for Powell River three minutes later.

The game stayed tied until the third period thanks to strong goaltending from the Clippers Vladimir Nikitin in his first start, and the Kings Ryan Tamelin.

Ben Wright put the home team up early in the third period until a dramatic late tying goal by Kinch sent the game to overtime.

Both teams traded chances in three on three with both goalies again standing tall.

Finally Nanaimo had a breakthrough with Cole Lonsdale setting up Patrick Fortune for the winner.

Lonsdale assisted on all three Clipper goals.

Nanaimo outshot Powell River 41-25 with both teams going 0/3 on the power play.

The Clippers have won three of their last four games heading into an important divisional game against Prince George on Jan. 29.

Nanaimo has a four point lead on the Spruce Kings for the final Coastal Division playoff spot.

The Clippers also have a home game against Victoria on Jan 31 and a road battle in Alberni Valley on Feb. 1.
