Clippers lose big lead in 7-5 loss to Express

Oct 25, 2024 | 10:21 PM

NANAIMO — The Clippers had perhaps their best 20 minutes of the season and potentially their worst 40.

In a tremendous first period against Coquitlam, Nanaimo poured in four goals.

First Chase Hull and Joel Plante connected on the power play and then Luke Lavery and Connor DeTurris added goals to give the Clippers a 4-0 lead at the intermission.

Coquitlam turned the tables in the second outshooting Nanaimo 18-3 and scoring three goals.

A point shot through traffic by Liam Loughery with 10 seconds left in the middle frame seemed to really ignite the Express.

Coquitlam added another four goals in the third period to capture a 7-4 lead before Cole Lonsdale notched a last minute goal to take the final to 7-5.

The other Express goals were scored by Joseph Odyniec with two, James Shannon, Jackson Krill, Sam Frandina and Thomas Zocco.

The final shots were 38-23 for Coquitlam with Nanaimo going 2/3 on the man advantage but surrendering goals on both Coquitlam power plays.

Eric Young took the win over Clippers netminder Chazz Nixon.

Nanaimo will look for a turnaround game when they host the Chilliwack Chiefs on Oct. 26.

The Clippers are on a four game losing streak and have given up a three goal lead and a four goal lead in their two most recent outings.
