NANAIMO — Nanaimo Fire Rescue (NFR) is holding its annual recruitment drive this month, looking for anyone interested in joining their firefighting family.

The job postings will be on the City of Nanaimo’s website until March 28.

Deputy fire chief administration in training at NFR Jodi Le Masurier said candidates must come prepared with a number of qualifications to be considered.

“Most people have definitely invested time, energy, and money to get to the position where they are qualified to be able to apply as a firefighter and we don’t take that lightly.”

Qualifications for candidates include being a licensed First Responder with a high school diploma, completing a candidate physical ability test (CPAT), and a valid class three B.C. driver’s license.

“We are excited for all people that want to put their name forward and we think it’s great that they want to carry on and further their career in public service, and we’re looking for people that want to do that and want to contribute.”

The full-time positions are broken down into four shifts a week, starting with two, tenhours day shifts in a row followed by two, 14-hour night shifts, and then four days off.

“Can be long days and long nights but it is a great career and we’re grateful for the people that come forward,” said Le Masurier.

More information on this and all City job postings can be found here on their website.
