VIDEO: Clippers Patterson excited for the future after team goes on 8-2 run

NANAIMO — Since mid-November, the Clippers have been on a tear.

Currently the club is on a three game winning streak after wins over Coquitlam, Powell River and Victoria. Nanaimo also had a five game winning streak which spanned most of November.

Clippers assistant coach Gaelan Patterson said he’s seen lots of improvement over his first month with the team.

“They’re starting to buy in. There’s still lots to do and lots to work on. There’s little habits and little details the guys need to go far in playoffs.”

Recently the Clippers used their potent offense to win 6-4 over both the Express and Kings and had a strong defensive showing in a 4-2 victory over the Grizzlies within a span of seven days.

Nanaimo is currently the highest scoring team in the BCHL with 111 goals.

Patterson admits the team is watching the standings with fourth place Nanaimo poised to catch both Victoria and Alberni Valley with a strong showing before the Christmas break.

Nanaimo sits one point back of the Grizzlies and two points behind the Bulldogs.

“The potential we see with this team offensively we think we can be a top team in this league. Going into the second half cleaning up a few things defensively the sky is the limit with this group.”

Clipper highlights from games against Powell River and Victoria Dec. 8 and 9.

Nanaimo wraps up the pre-Christmas schedule with road games in Coquitlam, Langley and Merritt.

Patterson said the Clippers will be taking a business like approach to those games.

“We’re going to have to be pros. It will trickle down from the staff. We’re not thinking about the holidays we’re just thinking about the next game.”

CLIP NOTES:

Noah Alvarez is on a three game point streak for the Clippers with five points in that span. He also had a one goal and two assist effort in his last outing against Victoria.

Both Michael Murtagh and Willyam Gendron enter the week in the top 5 in BCHL scoring. Murtagh is third with 32 points and Gendron is fifth with 31 points.
