NANAIMO — The death of a local woman in early March has been upgraded to a homicide.

Wendy Head, 52, died in a home in the 2300 block of Autumnwood Dr., near Labieux Rd., on March 7. It was initially determined her death, via overdose, was not suspicious.

Reserve Cst. Gary O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW the investigation has now shifted.

“Further information has come to light, investigators took a further look at the file and information has been forward to us and we are now treating it as a homicide.”

O’Brien said there’s little information which can be shared with the public to protect the integrity of the investigation, but they’re hoping people with details about Head’s death come forward.

“We can’t say where the information came from but we do know there are individuals on Vancouver Island who have information that can further this investigation and we need to hear from them.”

Anyone with information relevant to the investigation should contact Nanaimo RCMP at 250 755 3257, quoting file number 2023-7661.

Head’s death marks the second homicide in Nanaimo this year.

The first homicide of the year occurred following a stabbing near Port Place Shopping Centre in January, resulting in a murder charge.
