‘Just seemed like a natural fit:’ school kids the focus for annual Nanaimo charity golf event

NANAIMO — While space on course is all sold out, seats still remain for an unforgettable night out which will do a lot of good in the local community.

The second annual Big Wheel Charity Golf Classic is Thursday, Sept. 14 at Cottonwood Golf Course near Nanaimo Airport, and will see golfers tee off during the day and musicians take the stage at night.

Event organizer Sarah Bramley told NanaimoNewsNOW tickets still remain for the evening concert featuring country music star Aaron Pritchett, Faber Drive and Cross Parallel with proceeds going to the Nanaimo Ladysmith Schools Foundation.

“We had some great conversations with them and the needs they have this year. With them being able to provide meals and snacks at school, school supplies, sports and grad feeds, sports gear…it just seemed like a natural fit to be able to help a lot of children and youth in our community.”

Tickets for the show are $50 each and are available online. It starts around 8:30 p.m.

The event raised $73,500 in its first year, with proceeds going to support KidsSport and Nanaimo Community Hospice Society.

Bramley said they’re hoping to improve on the tally this year and nudge closer to six figures.

She added it’s important however for charity events to give back as much as they ask for.

“We really want to not only support the non-profits within our community but we also want to make sure this is valuable to the guests as well as the businesses who donate. We want to see it as an economic driver and be able to give as much visibility as possible.”

More information on the event is available through their website.
