PARKSVILLE — Oceanside Mounties have taken a quantity of drugs and weapons off local streets.

Officers executed a search warrant on a home in the 400 block of Pioneer Crescent around 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, April 5.

The considerable police presence led to the discovery of various types and quantities of drugs, weapons including a firearm and an array of what’s believed to be stolen property.

“Right now, the investigation is continuing as we need to seek assistance from the forensic lab as well as our forensic services section,” Sgt. Shane Worth told NanaimoNewsNOW.

Worth was unable to say what quantities or types of drugs were seized.

In addition to Oceanside RCMP officers, the RCMP’s Emergency Response Team took part in the search.

Two people were arrested, however, charges have not been formally laid and therefore their identities cannot be released.

Worth noted one person had “several outstanding arrest warrants” for obstruction and prohibited driving, while both were later released pending further court proceedings.

Officers will continue to gather evidence and build a case to forward to Crown Counsel.

Worth also said the scene drew a large crowd of onlookers to the residential neighbourhood.
