Clippers shutdown in 3-1 loss to Bulldogs

NANAIMO — For the first time this season the Clippers have lost back to back hockey games,

Alberni Valley beat Nanaimo 3-1 at Frank Crane Arena in a game they never trailed.

The Clippers got off to a strong start but against the flow of play the Bulldogs scored on each of their first two shots,

Nicholas Beneteau and Dakota MacIntosh had the first period markers for the visitors.

Brody Waters scored the only goal for Nanaimo on a rebound in the second period but Beneteau responded a minute and 23 seconds later and the goalies shut the door the rest of the night.

Hobie Hedquist stopped 30 of 31 shots for the win while Aidan Campbell made saves on 29 of 32 shots for the Clippers.

Nanaimo had the only two power plays of the game in a contest that was played cleanly despite a very high battle level.

There was a great atmosphere in the building with 2153 fans in attendance.

The Clippers wore special super hero inspired jerseys which were auctioned off and given to fans after the game.

Nanaimo and Alberni will wrap up their season series on Monday Feb. 20 at 2 p.m.

Through the first six games the Clippers have a 4-2 record but the Bulldogs have taken the last two contests.

The Clippers also have a home game against the Vernon Vipers on Saturday Feb. 18 at 7 p.m.
