Canadian running Chase Brown receives Senior Bowl honour

MOBILE, Ala. — Canadian Chase Brown made quite an impression this week at the Senior Bowl.

Jim Nagy, the  Senior Bowl’s executive director, tweeted Friday that the Illinois star was voted as the National team’s running back practice player of the week. Balloting was conducted by members of the National team’s linebackers group.

Brown, of London, Ont., was fourth in NCAA rushing with 1,643 yards for Illinois, averaging five yards a carry and registering 10 100-yard rushing games. He also 13 touchdowns (10 rushing, three receiving) and was a finalist for the Doak Walker Award as the top running back in American college football.

Earlier this year, Brown received the Jon Cornish Trophy as the top Canadian player in American college football.

Brown is one of four Canadians at the Senior Bowl. His twin brother, Sydney, a defensive back also at Illinois are on the National team. Syracuse offensive lineman Matthew Bergeron, of Victoriaville, Que., and Ole Miss defensive lineman Tavius Robinson, of Guelph, Ont., are both playing for the American squad.

Sydney Brown was listed among NFL Network draft guru Daniel Jeremiah’s top-10 draft winners from this week’s Senior Bowl practice sessions.

The Senior Bowl game will be played Saturday.
