Dec 9, 2022 | 10:26 AM

NANAIMO — A shooting at a duplex across from Beban Park is under police investigation.

RCMP officers were called to a duplex in the 2300 block of Bowen Rd., between Whitney Rd. and Leam Rd., on Friday, Dec. 9 at around 2 a.m.

Reserve Cst. Gary O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW a 34-year-old man was found on scene with an apparent gunshot injury.

“Our members did emergency first aid, stabilized him until such time EHS arrived and took him to the hospital where he’s continuing to receive treatment.”

It’s believed the shooter fled the scene in a vehicle, but O’Brien said it was not a drive-by shooting.

Police are also not saying whether the individual was shot inside the home or elsewhere on the property.

“We do know based on the information we’ve gathered so far, we believe this is a targeted, isolated incident and there is no further risk tot he public,” O’Brien added.

Officers have limited information thus far from the victim being treated at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

Police crime scene tape surrounded the front and back of the duplex’s exterior, while numerous forensic investigators were canvassing inside and outside of the affected unit Friday morning.

One RCMP officer was parked in front of the house on Bowen Rd., which is directly across from the north end of Beban Park.

Nanaimo Fire Rescue crews also attended the scene early Friday morning, paged out just after 2 a.m. for a medical aid call.

O’Brien said anyone with information on the incident, including dash cam or other security footage from the area is asked to contact the Nanaimo detachment at 250-754-2345, quoting file number 2022-42988.
