Clippers win thrilling shootout 3-2 over Alberni Valley

NANAIMO — The Clippers had to go the distance and then some.

They were playing their fourth game in six days and needed a shootout to beat the Bulldogs 3-2.

Michael Craig opened the scoring for Nanaimo with a first period power play goal.

Alberni Valley equalized on man advantage marker by Ethan Bono early in the second.

Then Skyler Cameron put Nanaimo back in front with a shot high to the short side before the middle frame was six minutes old.

On a Bulldogs five on three Cam Van Sickle capitalized on a two man break down low to even the score 2-2 through 40 minutes.

Nanaimo was penalized five straight times in the second period and had to survive an imbalance of eight to two on power play calls.

The Clippers went 1/2 on the man advantage and 6/8 killing penalties.

The game remained deadlocked through the third period and overtime thanks to the goaltending work of Nanaimo’s Aidan Campbell and the Bulldogs Campbell Arnold.

Campbell finished with 44 saves and Arnold made 41.

After a scoreless overtime the game ended with a four round shootout.

Raoul Boilard had the only tally for the Bulldogs, while Brody Waters and Michael Craig scored for Nanaimo to earn the Clippers the victory.

Nanaimo improved to 15-3 on the season and 3-0 against Alberni Valley.

The Clippers hit the road for games in Chilliwack and Surrey Nov. 19 and 20.
