Clippers lead wire to wire in 4-1 win against Bulldogs

NANAIMO — The Clippers got the lead two minutes into the game and put up a solid 60 minute performance to beat Alberni Valley 4-1.

Brett Merner opened the scoring with his first goal of the season and Luca Grabas extended Nanaimo’s lead early in the middle frame.

Rylan Yates scored on a third period rebound to up the lead to 3-0 before Nicholas Beneteau banked in the only goal of the night for the Bulldogs.

A last minute power play marker by Charles secured the Clippers victory.

Both teams had 43 shots with Aidan Campbell getting the win over Alberni’s Hobie Hedquist.

The Clippers finished the game 1/4 on the man advantage and 2/2 killing penalties.

It was Nanaimo’s fourth game in seven nights and the team’s second straight game allowing only one goal.

The Nov. 11 three stars were:

Nanaimo has a rematch against the Bulldogs on Nov. 12 in Alberni Valley that will begin a stretch of five straight away games for the Clippers.
