NANAIMO — A man wanted in connection to a break-in and sexual assault in Nanoose Bay is in custody.

Police in Steinbach, Manitoba arrested 27-year-old Quinten Anthony Meyer on Thursday, Oct. 20, approximately three months after he allegedly broke into a Morello Rd. home and sexually assaulted a woman inside.

Meyer was initially arrested just a few hours after the July 30 incident but was released on bail as no charges were immediately laid.

Oceanside RCMP were able to formally connect Meyer to the scene through their investigation and charged him on Aug. 5.

He was due to appear in court in September, according to police, however his whereabouts were unknown after he was released by officers in late July. A warrant for his arrest was issued at the time.

Meyer was known to have family connections on Vancouver Island, the Okanagan and Calgary.

It’s unknown what he was doing in Manitoba.

Sgt. Shane Worth with the Oceanside RCMP said arrangements are being made for Meyer to be transported back to B.C. to face the charges against him.

Worth previously told NanaimoNewsNOW information about the incident spread rapidly on social media, which both helped and hindered the investigation.

“We would just caution people not to be super hyper-vigilant or take matters into their own hands,” Worth said in August. “If you see something that doesn’t look right in your community or think is suspicious, give us a call and we’ll come investigate it and deal with it.”
