NANAIMO — The Clippers were short manned and on the short end of the shots on goal but came up with a gritty 3-1 win over Victoria.

Goalie Shane Shelest was the first star making 38 saves for Nanaimo.

Four defencemen saw the bulk of the action in front of him.

Due to injuries on the blueline the Clippers went primarily with Michael Craig, Ethan Mistry, Grant Babcock and Lucas Klemm.

Although they only managed 20 shots in the game Nanaimo got a first period goal from Willyam Gendron, a third period power play tally by Kai Daniells and an empty netter from Jake Hewitt.

The score was tied 1-1 for over 45 minutes with both Shelest and Victoria’s Oliver Auyeung-Ashton looking sharp.

Noah Leibl was the only Victoria player to score, six minutes into the contest.

Nanaimo went 1/4 on the power play and 2/2 killing penalties.

Daniells and Leibl were the players who rounded out the three stars.

With the win Nanaimo moves to 3-1 on the season with another weekend of home games upcoming.

The Clippers host the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Oct. 7 and the Langley Rivermen Oct. 9.
