NANAIMO — Candidates running for a seat with municipal councils in Nanaimo and Lantzville will have the opportunity to further present their case to voters.

The BC Green Party Nanaimo Riding Association hosts an all-candidates meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 28 between 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. at the Beban Park Social Centre’s Lounge C.

Twenty three candidates for both mayor and council stated they would attend the event titled: Toward a Sustainable Nanaimo.

“Voters will be able to talk with them during a meet-and-greet session from 6:00 to 6:45 pm, and then hear their responses to a series of questions on zoning, land use, transportation, low-carbon energy systems, food security, recycling, and more,” a news release from the riding association stated.

Thirty-three candidates are competing for a council or mayoral position in Nanaimo.

A meet and greet event focused on election races at Nanaimo City Hall and the School District 68 Board of Trustees took place last week.

Meanwhile voters in Lantzville will have an opportunity to attend an in-person all-candidates meeting on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 2:30 p.m. at Costin Hall on Lantzville Rd.

The event includes questions regarding past property tax increases, recent controversial development applications, as well as questions from audience members.

A meet and greet between the candidates and voters follows the event.

General election day for this year’s civic vote province-wide is Oct. 15. Advance takes place on Oct. 5 and 12.
