Nanaimo Senior A Timbermen brace for WLA Championship series

NANAIMO — For the first time since 1968, a local team will compete for the Western Lacrosse Association Championship.

The Nanaimo Senior A Timbermen swept their way past Coquitlam in the league semi-finals and will take on the Langley Thunder in a best-of-seven series beginning Friday, Aug. 19 in the Lower Mainland.

Game two will be in Nanaimo on Sunday, Aug. 21 with games continuing every other night until a winner is found. Game four will be Thursday, Aug. 25 at Frank Crane Arena, while a potential game six would return Sunday, Aug. 29.

Start times for all games are 7 p.m.

The TMen outscored the Adanacs 41-30 in a four game sweep, culminating at Frank Crane Arena on Friday, Aug. 12 in front of a recorded attendance of 951.

Langley required six games to dispatch the Victoria Shamrocks, the last of which came Sunday, Aug. 14 on the Island.

The Thunder held a 2-1 advantage through the regular season series with Nanaimo, winning games 10-9 and 8-6, while the TMen got a 12-9 win on the road in mid-July.
