NANAIMO — She’s performed in front of big crowds and wow’d judges on American Idol, but Monday was arguably the biggest performance of Lauren Spencer-Smith’s career.

The 18-year-old singer, originally from Port Alberni but who later moved to Nanaimo, was the musical guest on the Monday, Aug. 8 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Spencer-Smith performed her new single, Narcissist, for the crowd and an estimated TV audience of 1.5 million people.

It was one of the first times Spencer-Smith had appeared on American television since a top-20 finish on American Idol in 2020.

Appearing on the show is the latest in a growing list of accolades for the singer-songwriter.

In addition to her performance on American Idol, Spencer-Smith also earned a 2020 Juno nomination for best adult contemporary album.

Since appearing on American Idol, Spencer-Smith has released new, original music, including a chart-topping single in January 2022, followed by a live performance at the iconic Wembley Stadium in England in June.
