NANAIMO — A man was sent to hospital in stable condition after a serious late night single-vehicle crash on the Nanaimo Parkway.

BC Emergency Health Services stated the crash happened near the Northfield Rd. exit on Wednesday, July 6 at about 11:20 p.m.

Good Samaritan Zach Simpson attended the scene just after the crash out of concern for the car’s lone occupant.

“When I was there his car was smoking, air bags were blown, the car was definitely totaled.”

The car was travelling south at the time and that the driver was conscious following the wreck, Simpson said.

He noted the man’s car hit a concrete barrier about 150 meters away and eventually rested on its wheels in the grassy median.

He said shattered glass and other debris from the car was scattered all over the highway.

Nanaimo RCMP along with Nanaimo Fire Rescue attended the rollover, which is under police investigation.

The highway’s southbound lanes were temporarily shut down in the area as a result of the crash.
