Improved public washrooms and picnic shelter re-open at Ladysmith’s Transfer Beach Park

LADYSMITH — A provincial fund designed to jolt tourism defendant communities resulted in key new additions to Ladysmith’s signature public gathering place.

The Town announced significant portions of improvements at Transfer Beach Park are complete, featuring an enlarged new public washroom building and vastly re-modeled Kinsmen and Sportsmen Shelters.

Capacity has been increased in both the men’s and women’s washrooms, while both accessible washrooms have also been expanded, a news release from the Town noted.

Both the Kinsmen and Sportsmen shelters include expanded entrances, substantial structural upgrades and new roofing.

“Both the Kinsmen Shelter and Sportsmen Shelter are now available for day use and rental bookings after significant upgrades were undertaken to improve the overall aesthetic and layout,” the Town stated.

Ongoing projects as part of the provincially funded program include building a shelter cover for the Salish Wind canoe and installing a walkway to the beach.

The Town of Ladysmith was awarded a little over $700,000 from the province as part of a more than $19 million fund supporting 32 communities, which included projects in Parksville and Qualicum Beach.

Grants were awarded based on the ability to be completed by March 2023.
