Clippers take first two playoff games at home, beat Surrey 7-4 in Game 2

NANAIMO — The Clippers gave up an early first goal but quickly tied the score and skated to a 7-4 victory over Surrey.

Buddy Johnson gave the Eagles their only lead four minutes into the game but it lasted just over a minute.

Sean Donaldson tallied in his second straight game and a pair of goals by Jeremie Payant put the Clippers up 3-1 before the end of the first period.

The teams traded goals in the second with Cole Hansen and Kai Daniells scoring for Nanaimo and Jacob Bonkowski and Grayden Slipec (on the man advantage) countering for Surrey.

Late in the final frame Bonkowski notched his second of the night but Nanaimo responded with Daniells and then Brody Waters capped the scoring.

Waters goal was into an empty net.

Surrey outshot Nanaimo 42-30 with Cooper Black getting the victory in net. Max Prazma played the first two periods with Eli Pulver taking the net for the final 20 minutes for the Eagles.

Nanaimo went 1/4 on the power play and 1/2 killing penalties.

The series shifts to Surrey for games three and four on April 4 and 5.

Nanaimo took the first game 3-2 on April 1.
