NANAIMO — A man remains in hospital with serious injuries following what police believe was group beating.

Officers were called to the The Wellington Hotel Pub on Victoria Ave. around 6:20 p.m. on Friday, March 25 for a disturbance and found the man outside the pub.

Reserve Cst. Gary O’Brien said the victim was attacked by multiple people and received “extensive” injuries, including stab wounds.

“We’re looking for several vehicles that were involved and upwards of four or five (people) involved in the altercation. We don’t know what, if anything, precipitated the attack.”

The victim, a man in his late 20’s, was treated on scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital, first in Nanaimo then Victoria for his injuries.

O’Brien said multiple vehicles were involved in the incident, all of which fled the scene.

Police offered no description of the attackers or vehicles involved but described the situation as “a very active investigation”.

O’Brien also noted police have had “interactions” with the victim in the past but a link to attackers remains unknown.

“We don’t know if there was a relationship between the two parties.”

Anyone with dash cam or security footage around the Wellington Hotel Pub on Friday evening is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP.
