PARKSVILLE — Investigators have made headway into determining who was involved in an alleged hit and run.

A cyclist required air transport to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle just before 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 6 while riding on the shoulder of Hwy. 19, just north of the Englishman River bridge near Parksville.

Cpl. Mike Halskov with BC Highway Patrol said in a release, police have identified and seized the vehicle believe to have been involved. He noted police will conduct a mechanical inspection and forensic examination.

Halskov was unable to confirm to NanaimoNewsNOW whether the registered owner of the vehicle was behind the wheel at the time of the incident.

Police have also not released the make or model of the vehicle involved, but were aided in their search by witness statements and dashcam footage.

No arrests have been made or charges laid and nobody related to the incident is in police custody.

“Every investigation is different and investigators are thankful to the media and the public for their assistance to move this file forward,” Halskov said in the release.

Halskov noted charges may stem from the investigation, however, officers must first collect “all relevant evidence.”

An investigation into the incident continues with police again asking anyone with information to contact BC Highway Patrol in Parksville at 250 954 2953, quoting file number 2022-133.
