Senior A Nanaimo Timbermen stay local to restock roster

NANAIMO — The city’s senior A lacrosse team didn’t have to scout too far in order to find their next generation.

The annual Western Lacrosse Association draft was held on Thursday, Feb. 10 with the Nanaimo Sr. A Timbermen selecting six players, including two in the first round.

Ari Stevens and Skyler Wilson led the draft class and both came from the Timbermen’s Junior A program.

The organization secured some extra picks through two trades before the draft.

Nanaimo received Callum Crawford along with a first and second round pick from Burnaby in exchange for Mark Yingling, who Nanaimo selected in a compensatory round before the main draft.

A second deal saw the Timbermen receive Adam Fulton, two picks in 2022 and another two in 2024 from New Westminster in exchange for Jordan Hillis and Liam MacDonald.

Three additional Nanaimo players were selected in later rounds of the draft.

Mason McAdams, Griffin Wilson and Hank Wulder all made the jump from the junior program.

Nanaimo also selected Jaxon Henrickson and Andrew Joseph out of Langley, along with Arjan Singh from Delta.

It was the first draft for new Timbermen coach Tewanee Joseph, who welcomed his new additions after the night wrapped.
