NANAIMO — School District 68 has its full compliment of trustees once more.

Naomi Bailey won the seat on the Nanaimo-Ladysmith Public Schools Board of Trustees, vacated by new Nanaimo-Ladysmith MP Lisa Marie Barron, during a by-election held Saturday, Jan. 15.

Bailey tallied 859 votes according to preliminary results posted by SD68, defeating the only other candidate Steve Rae by 623 votes.

Official results will be published by 12 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 20.

Bailey will swear in at an upcoming meeting and join the Board for the remainder of its term, through to the Municipal election in mid-October.

The vote on Saturday was necessary after the resignation of Barron, who won the seat of Nanaimo-Ladysmith during the 2021 Federal Election.
