NANAIMO — Police hope the public can help find several personal items believed to have been discarded following a shocking stabbing in Nanaimo.

A couple in their 60’s were stabbed in their Northumberland Ave. home on Saturday, Dec 18 around 7:15 p.m., resulting in serious injuries to the pair.

A lone male suspect was arrested at a Boundary Cres. home after the incident.

Police say some of the items may have been discarded following the stabbing in the 900 block of Northumberland Ave., Townsite Rd, the 1500 block of Boundary Cres., or any green space along the Millstone River.

The items police are looking for include:

  • men’s black ¾ length winter jacket with a brown fur collar
  • bright orange/black or red/black gloves
  • black duffel bag with a strap

Anthony Rouskov Nielsen, 20, was arrested without incident following the incident and was charged with two counts each of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.

The Nanaimo man remains in custody pending a Dec. 29 bail hearing.

Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW the items could include DNA or other forensics evidence relevant to the investigation. Additionally, he said, the items could assist police in determining what occurred.

If anyone has information on the items police are requesting call the detachment’s general investigation Section at 250-754-2345, and quote file # 2021-46614.

Police are confident there aren’t any more suspects, while the incident is categorized as an isolated incident.
