Clippers lose emotional battle 3-1 to Cowichan Valley

Dec 17, 2021 | 10:20 PM

NANAIMO — For the second time in two weeks the Clippers lost at home to Cowichan Valley.

The Clippers wore their retro jerseys and saluted 50 years of team alumni before the game but it was the road team who captured momentum early.

Cowichan Valley scored six minutes into every period with Nanaimo’s only goal coming half way through the game from Tristan Fraser.

McCoy Bidewell was strong in net making 31 saves while the Clippers Cooper Black had 23 in the loss.

In the late going the teams exchanged penalties and the game finished with an on ice altercation between Andrew Noel and the Capitals Jordan Edwards and a war of words between the two benches as the players left the ice and headed to the locker room.

The Dec 17 three stars were 1) Luke Haymes 2) McCoy Bidewell 3) Tristan Fraser

Nanaimo is 3-2 against the Capitals with one home and one road game remaining in the season series.

The Clippers will end their 2021 schedule with a game against Victoria at the Q Centre Dec. 18.
