Penalties sink Clippers in 4-1 loss to Salmon Arm

CHILLIWACK — A major penalty and a long five on three man advantage against the Clippers was the difference in a 4-1 loss to the Silverbacks.

The Clippers opened the scoring for a fifth straight game when Jeremie Payant notched his first of the season through the legs of netminder Owen Say.

But in the final ten minutes of the first period the Clippers Sean Donaldson took a major penalty for a blow to the head and Salmon Arm connected twice.

The Silverbacks added another goal on a long five on three before the first intermission to take a 3-1 lead to the dressing room.

Nanaimo goalie Jayden Shull was solid for the rest of the contest finishing with 27 saves in his first start of the season.

A late goal by the game’s first star Ethan Ullrick gave Salmon Arm some insurance and a 4-1 victory.

The shots on goal finished 31-21 for the Silverbacks with the Clippers going 3/6 on the penalty kill and 0/3 on the man advantage.

The result gives the Clippers the first blemish in the win/loss column, moving their record to 4-1.
