Clippers win 8-1 over Kings in home opener

NANAIMO — The Clippers home opener couldn’t have gone much better.

A hat trick from Sean Donaldson propelled the team to an 8-1 blowout victory over Powell River on Friday, Oct 15 at Frank Crane Arena.

Donaldson left Nanaimo to play in the USHL last year, but came back to the Clippers to orchestrate a monstrous performance in his return.

Ethan Mistry scored twice in the game along with singles from Charles Tardif, Kai Daniells and Keighan Gerrie.

In all 12 different players had points while goalie Cooper Black made 27 saves to run his season record to 3-0.

Nanaimo outshot Powell River 29-28 and won the special teams battle going 3/5 on the man advantage and 4/4 on the penalty kill.

The Clippers welcomed fans back to Frank Crane Arena for the first time since March of 2020 with a large crowd of 1,300, the maximum number of fans permitted under current public health rules.

Powell River and Nanaimo opened the season playing three games head to head with the Clippers outscoring their opponents 18-4.

The two rivals will play for a fourth consecutive time at Frank Crane Arena on Saturday, Oct 17 at 7 p.m.

Nanaimo has outscored Powell River 18-4 in three regular season games.
